At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. Summary of Content: Diary contains detailed accounts of weather, appointments, etc. In the entries for December 24 and following, Emerick records his final arrangements to leave for the South and his journey to join his regiment.
